A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said, Abdul Jabar, provincial national directorate of security (NDS) deputy chief was injured along with his two bodyguards on Sunday morning.
The official further added, the incident took place while Abdul Jabar was visiting his relatives. He was taken to US-run Bargram air base for treatment purposes, and was later transferred to Kabul military hospital.
Taliban group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said that Abdul Jabar was killed with his two bodyguards following the explosion, however local officials denied Taliban claims.
Paktiya is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan, and militants are openly operating in it’s various districts.
According to local government officials, militant groups have recently doubled their insrugency activities and are frequently carrying out attacks on government officials.
Local security and health officials said at least 200 people have been killed or injured following roadside improvised explosive device explosions and militants attacks.
