
A senior United States Senator John McCain has once again criticized the US force drawdown in Afghanistan.
His criticism came after Taliban flooded into Kundoz city, the provincial capital of northern Kundoz province.
McCain in a statement said that the the Kundoz attack “is the latest manifestation of this dangerous reversal.”
McCain again opposed to complete drawdown of US forces from Afghanistan. He said that if a complete drawdown happens, the scenario of Iraq could be repeated in Afghanistan.
McCain has long opposed the President Obama’s policy of completely pulling out its troops from Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the U.S. forces once again joined hands with Afghan security forces in fight against Taliban.
The launched airstrikes on Taliban in Kundoz city on Tuesday in order to assist Afghan security forces retake the city.
Brian Tribus, spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan confirmed the air strikes.
Since yesterday, Taliban have been controlling parts of Kundoz city which is the first provincial capital falling to Taliban hands after they were ousted from power in 2001.
Reports suggest that they also freed more than 500 prisoners yesterday after storming the province’s prison.
