
The security officials have rejected that the Afghan armed forces have laid a siege to residence of Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef in Kabul.
Sources privy of the development had earlier claimed that Afghan security forces have laid a siege to residential house of a former Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef in Kabul.
According to the sources, the siege was laid late on Saturday night and the residence of Mullah Zaeef is still besieged by the security forces.
However, officials in the Ministry of Interior are saying that the security forces conducted an operation in the area but reject reports that a siege was laid to Mullah Zaeef’s house.
Mullah Zaeef was serving as the Ambassador of Taliban to Pakistan while Taliban regime was in power.
He was reportedly handed over to U.S. authorities after the fall of Taliban regime following the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.
Mullah Zaeef spent several years in Guantanamo Bay detention facility and returned to Kabul after he was releasaed.
He started a normal life in Kabul after his release but continued to his political activities and was considered as of the involved individuals in ongoing peace efforts.
