Saleh Omits Number ‘39’ Permanently from Kabul Traffic Department

Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president said in his ‘6:30 am meetings’ that the number ‘39’ would be removed permanently from the Traffic Department.

Saleh called on  Kabul Traffic department to eliminate this number permanently and stop issuing license plates that includes  number 39 across the country.

Since number ‘39’ has been considered unethical by the public, this has become a source of money for the corrupt and disruptive officials, Saleh said.

He indicated that most of the people oppose to receive vehicle number plates that includes the number 39 in it, and people turned into bribing the authorities up to $300 in order to get the vehicle plates that does not include ‘39’ in it. 

Saleh added in his today’s meeting that soon he would discuss the proposed agenda with the president emphasizing that no citizens will be forced to bribe officials and stay concerned about their license plate number from Saturday onward.

People signifies number ‘39’ ugly as the number is considered to be equivalent to letter “Dala” (Procurer) among the Afghans.

Meanwhile, Kabul Traffic officers have claimed that last year the department earned 2 Billion Afghanis through issuance of the license plates, but when the numbers reached the number ‘39’, people refused to buy or register their vehicles with this number.

On the other hand, a report published by (DW) stated that the negative interpretation of the number ‘39’ by the Afghan Traffic authorities have caused the loss of 1 Billion Afghanis in the revenues.
