The Associated Press has reported that a Russian military transport plane has crashed with 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war on board.

The cause of this incident in the Belgorod region near Ukraine and whether anyone has survived or not is still unknown. The exact identities of the passengers on this military aircraft have not been determined yet, according to the Associated Press.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the plane crash. According to the Associated Press, the Russian Ministry of Defense has stated that a special team has been dispatched to the crash site.

Reuters has released images from the scene of the incident showing flames and smoke rising from the ground. RIA Novosti, the Russian state news agency, reported that the passengers on the plane were prisoners of war being transferred to a border region for exchange.

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, refrained from commenting on the incident in a telephone conversation with reporters, stating that he currently has no information on the matter.

Russian Air Forces have recently experienced a series of aviation accidents. Analysts believe that these incidents may be a result of increased flights during the Ukraine conflict.
