According to the Russian police officials, the man identified as Alexander Sasha Chechik had apparently taken out the pin of the grenade and was looking to take a picture when it went off.
The officials further added that the incident took place in the city of Labinsk in Southwest parts of Russia, leaving the man instantly dead.
“Apparently the guy did no manage to insert [the hand grenade pin] back in. The explosion broke him in half,” a police source told the local Interfax news outlet.
The source further added that Chechik expected the grenade would not explode as long as he didn’t throw it.
The police officials have categorize the incident as an accident and ruled out the possibility of the suicide saying the man had sent the photographs to his friends as well, apparently during a live chat.
Some of the texts recovered from the mobile phone of the victim shows that a friend of the man had asked regarding his whereabouts and that if everything was ok after he had seen the photo with hand grenade in his hand.
The victim had replied “It depends by what you mean ‘OK’”, with his friend in reply saying “Listen, don’t f*** around. Where are you,” to which they received no response.
