On Monday, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations stated that “the Ukraine crisis will not be resolved in a day.”

Vasily Nebenzya made these remarks in response to a question about Donald Trump’s claim that, if re-elected as U.S. President, he would end the Ukraine war within “24 hours.”

Trump has also asserted that if he had been president in 2022, Russia would not have attacked Ukraine.

During a debate last week, Trump said, “I’ll solve this war between Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky as the President-elect before I ever step foot in the White House.”

American voters head to the polls on November 5 to elect the next president for a four-year term.

The outcome of these elections is crucial to Russia, as Moscow believes Trump will not provide the necessary support for Ukraine. This comes as Kyiv needs American arms and political leadership to rally its European allies for victory in the war.

A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign told Reuters, “President Trump is the most effective statesman and negotiator in history and will resolve this dispute when elected.”

The Kremlin has stated that any peace plan for Ukraine proposed by Trump if he wins, must reflect concrete realities.

The statements from both sides underscore the geopolitical stakes involved in the U.S. presidential election. Trump’s promises to resolve the Ukraine crisis swiftly if re-elected contrast sharply with Russia’s cautious diplomatic stance, emphasizing the need for any peace initiative to be grounded in practical, achievable terms.

As the election approaches, the implications for Ukraine and broader international relations remain pivotal, shaped by the candidate’s foreign policy positions and their potential impact on global stability.
