A Russian government official claimed on Thursday that the European Union (EU) is a party to the conflict due to its participation in military training of Ukrainian forces and military aid to Kyiv.

Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heavily criticized the recent decision by the EU to support military aid to Ukraine during a press conference in Moscow, the Russian capital.

“Almost €107 million ($104.6 million) are allocated for this venture. This step goes along with the supply of lethal weapons to the Kyiv regime, qualitatively increases the involvement of the European Union, making it, of course, a party to the conflict,” Anadolu Agency reported citing Zakharova.

The EU Council decided on Monday to launch a mission to provide military support for the Ukrainian armed forces.

Josep Borrell, the head of foreign policy for the EU, has reportedly stated that the mission will begin operations in November.

In addition, Zakharova cautioned that NATO is edging ever closer to “the dangerous line of a direct military conflict with Russia” by providing military assistance to Ukraine.

This comes as NATO, the EU, and the US support Ukraine in the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine by providing military aid and training Ukrainian armed forces as they fight back.
