Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in an interview that the US seeks to weaken the European Union (EU) both militarily and economically.
The US goal is to thoroughly “bleed” and deindustrialize the European economy, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview that was published on Sunday, October 30.
According to the top Russian official, Europe is already starting to suffer from anti-Russian sanctions “many times more than the US.”
While Lavrov claims that the US wants to undermine the European economy, he added that weakening Europe “militarily” is also in Washington’s interests.
He added that the US intends to continuously put pressure on the EU in order to drive it into arming Ukraine and in return replenish EU countries’ arms depots with American supplies.
According to the Russian Foreign Minister, Washington has been led in pursuing this policy by economic, totally “selfish calculations”, and by “ideological complexes of superiority.”
As a result of EU sanctions on the Russian energy supply, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the US is making “crazy money” by selling gas to European nations for outrageous prices.
Russia’s Secretary of the Security Council Nikolay Patrushev previously stated at a meeting that the US wants to undermine Europe and create indisputable advantages for the growth of its own economy.
Gas prices have climbed as a result of the broad sanctions the EU put on Russia for its military invasion of Ukraine. Currently, the EU is battling with the possibility of winter energy shortages and skyrocketing inflation.
