Ukrainian military officials on Sunday said that Russia has resumed launching overnight drone attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region, adding the country’s air defense system defused targets.

Sarhi Popko, a colonel general who heads Kyiv’s military administration, in a telegram message said about Russian strikes but did not provide about the casualties of the incident.

Local citizens have reported to Reuters as they heard rumbling sounds and explosions similar to that of air defense systems hitting their targets.

Kyiv, central and eastern parts of Ukraine had warned of possible Russian strikes in the afternoon on Sunday.

The country’s air force said that the attack included eight Iranian-made Shahed drones and three cruise missiles which were shot down, Reuters reported.

It is reported that three private houses were damaged as a result of falling drone debris in the Kyiv region, injuring one person, the military head of the region, Ruslan Kravchenko, said on his Facebook page.

The new escalations come after the Russian army resumed striking several parts of Ukraine including the capital city of Kyiv on Sunday – indicating the war is far from over.
