Ukrainian officials have reported that two people were killed and at least six others were injured in a new Russian drone attack on the country.
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, stated that the Russian drone strike on the Ukrainian capital resulted in several fires. Local authorities confirmed that at least two people were killed, and six others were wounded in the attack.
According to Ukrainian officials, the fires broke out on the roof of a residential building and in an apartment, causing damage to two upper floors of the building.
Klitschko also announced that the air defense systems were active during the attack. He urged citizens to protect themselves by staying in shelters and safe places.
Ukrainian authorities further claimed that Russia has continued to carry out drone strikes in other parts of Ukraine since New Year’s Eve. In Zaporizhzhia, several residential buildings caught fire due to explosions overnight.
However, Ukraine’s Emergency Services have stated that rescue operations are still ongoing at the site, with psychologists assisting those affected by the attack.
This comes as Russia launched a large-scale invasion of various Ukrainian regions on February 24, 2022. The ongoing conflict has forced millions of Ukrainians to flee their country.
