Explosion in NangarharAt least three children were killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

According to local security officials, the incident took place late on Saturday afternoon in Sherzad district.

A spokesman for the 201 Silab Military Corps for eastern Afghanistan, Gen. Mohammad Naeem Hatefi, said at least six civilians were also injured.

Gen. Hatefi further added that the incident took place after a civilian car struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Hashem Khel area.

He said the injured civilians were shifted to hospital and their health condition has been reported as satisfactory.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Taliban militants and insurgents from the other militant groups frequently use Imrpovised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces which normally lead to civilian casualties.
