Prominent Afghan cricket athletes Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have reacted to Selection Committee’s decision for appointing new captains for One Day Internationals, Twenty20 Internationals, and Test matches.

“With all the respect to the Selection Committee, I strongly disagree with the decision as it is irresponsible & bias. As we have @cricketworldcup in front of us, Captain #MAsgharAfghan should remain as our team Captain. His captaincy is highly instrumental for team success,” Afghan team’s spin sensation said in a Twitter post.

Khan further added “With just months to go for such a mega event like World Cup, changing the captain will cause uncertainty and also team morale will be affected.”

Former Afghan skipper Mohammad Nabi also reacted to selection of new captains in the Afghan team.

“Being a senior member of the side & having seen the rise of Afghanistan cricket @ashrafghani I don’t think it’s the right time to change the captain before the WC @afgexecutive The team has gelled really well under #Asghar & personally feel he is the right man to lead us @hmohib,” he said in a Twitter post.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced earlier today that senior All-rounder Gulbadin Naib has replaced Asghar Afghan as ODI Captain while Rashid Khan has been appointed Vice Captain.

According to a statement released by Board of Cricket, Rashid will also lead the T20I side while Shafiqullah Shafaq has been appointed as Vice Captain.

The statement further added that middle order batsmen Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah will lead the Test team as Captain and Vice Captain respectively, according to Cricket Board of Afghanistan.
