Arrested in KAbulThe appellate court of southern Helamand province sentenced two rapists of a 6-year-old child to 15 years in prison.

According to the prosecutor of the case, the two men had sexually abused the child around three months back.

The defense lawyer of the accused men rejected the allegations.

This comes as mullah who raped a 10-year-old girl in his mosque was sentenced to 20 years in prison after a dramatic trial in Kabul later last month.

The rape took place in May at a mosque in a village near the provincial capital, also called Kunduz.

The women’s rights groups and activists welcomed the trial of mullah and was hailed as a watershed moment, in a country where women are still the targets of violence, despite reforms since the fall of the Taliban in 2001.

The sexual abuse and rape of children have been rampant in Afghanistan with Independent Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan (AIHRC) saying that influential figures as well as wealthy people in Afghanistan are hiring teenage boys aged between 10 to 18 years old for their sexual satisfaction.
