Dozens of Afghan journalists and civil society activists urged president Hamid Karzai on Wednesday to sign the bilateral security agreement between Kabul and Washington without any further delay.
The rally was organized by Afghanistan Journalists Center to demonstrate against president Karzai’s decision for delaying the bilateral security agreement singing.
The participants of the rally also expressed concerns regarding Afghan government’s decision to free dozens of Bagram prisoners, who are believed to have links behind deadly attacks on Afghan and coalition forces.
The rally organizers urged president Karzai to respect the decision made by Afghan elders during the consultative Loya Jirga, and urged political parties, civil society organizations and parliament members to force president Karzai for the signing of the Afghan-US security deal.
A statement was released by rally organizers at the end of the rally in which they said that the security deal with Washington was one of the demands of the people and therefore the pact should be signed by president Karzai.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center warned that tensions between Kabul and Washington was further escalating, and urged all the governmental and non-governmental regulatory organizations to prevent the government from taking such decisions which are against the national benefits of the country.
They also urged the government not to release the Bagram prisoners, and warned that they will continue to their protests across the country if the government did not provide them with satisfactory reasons regarding the freedom of the prisoners from Bagram.
