Afghanistan House Speaker Obtains Cyprus ‘Golden Passport’ for $2.5M

Afghanistan’s Lower House speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani bought Cyprus “golden passport” for himself and his family, according to a leaked confidential document obtained by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit.

Rahmani, including his wife and three daughters, are among dozen others from more than 70 nations who bought “golden passport” from Cyprus between 2017 and 2019, the report said.

Each applicant is required to sum-up approximately $2.5m investment to qualify for the passport, according to AJI Unit.

Rahmani has become a highly successful businessman more recently, “handling fuel and transport contracts between the Afghan government and the US military.”
