Sheik Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, and James Cleverly, the UK Foreign Secretary, met to discuss Afghanistan, among other issues, on Tuesday.

According to a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two sides met in Doha to discuss bilateral cooperation, in particular the preparations for the upcoming strategic dialogue, as well as recent regional developments, particularly those about the Palestinian cause, Syria’s situation, the Iranian nuclear deal, and Afghanistan’s situation.

The statement said both sides also discussed the international community’s significance in supporting the people of Afghanistan.

Earlier this month, Al-Thani had a phone conversation with the US National security advisor, Jake Sullivan and discussed the need to continue humanitarian support for the people of Afghanistan.

Both sides discussed bilateral cooperation, issues of regional and international interests, and the recent development in Afghanistan among the topics.

The statement also stressed the critical need for ongoing humanitarian aid to be provided to the people of Afghanistan.

Qatar supported the negotiation between the de factor regime of the Taliban and the US in Doha in 2020, which led to the withdrawal of foreign troops, including the US.
