Pul-e-Khumri city mayor arrested over adultery charges

DSC00777According to security officials in capital Kabul, Syed Maqsood Sadat mayor of Pul-e-Khumri city was arrested along with four other individuals in Kabul city over illegitimate activities.

Syed Maqsood Sadat who was recently appointed as the mayor for the provincial capital of northern Baghlan province was also dismissed from his position after he was arrested in Microryan along with three women.

The provincial government in northern Baghlan province on Thursday appointed Mir Ahmad Bayani, a former employee of Pul-e-Khumri city as the new acting mayor for the city.

According to reports Syed Maqsood Sadat has been released from the prison however the women along with one of his friend are still in the custody.

Gen. Zahir Zahir head of the criminal investigation unit in Kabul security commandment confirming the report said Afghan police forces conducted an operation after receiving reports regarding illegitimate activities in Block # 103 of Microryan.

He said Syed Maqsood Sadat mayor of Pul-e-Khumri city was arrested along with his friend and three women during the operation.

Mr. Zaher also added that around 71 cases of adultery, 55 cases of homosexuality and around 99 cases relating to usage of alcohol were filed in the criminal investigation unit of Kabul security commandment last year.

According to Gen. Zahir, Afghan police forces arrested around 198 individuals in connection to adultery charges, 97 were held in connection to homosexuality and 203 other people were arrested for the usage of alcohol in Kabul city.
