The Covid19 disease which has been emerged at the end of 2019 from the Wuhan Province of China has put the lives of millions of people in danger after a few weeks. The Covid19 is highly contagious with the possibility of causing severe respiratory disease; it has quickly impacted governments and public health systems. On March 12, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that Covid19 is a pandemic disease and WHO has also issued the precautions and advises which have to be implemented by countries people across the world in order to slow down the spread of the Covide19. Most of the countries in the world are lock-down including European Countries USA, India, Afghanistan and other countries as well and they have also implemented strict actions on its citizens to limit the out-going people from their homes.  

Fear of Dying without given Ghusul to the body of Deceased, Muslims.

 (كُلُّ نَفۡسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ الۡمَوۡتِ) Surah Al-Imran 185, every soul will taste death. There is no doubt that every living thing will die one day even us humans, male, female, black, white, poor, rich, sick, healthy.

Washing the body of the deceased prior to shrouding and the burial is obligatory, according to numerous recorded instructions given by the Prophet Mohammad Sallallahu ‘Alayhi wa sallam. (Sahih Al-Bukhari, vol. 2, p. 194, #344) and every Muslim wants to be buried in an Islamic way when they die. But anyone who dies of Coronavirus is not given ghusl (washed) or buried in the Islamic way because the virus is contagious and might spread to the person who washes the deceased or people who will join the Janazah. This has created a very bad impact on the mental health of many Muslims especially elderly people with pre-existing medical conditions.  

Impact on Elderly People   

As the Covid19 pandemic sweeps across the world, it’s causing stress and fear among all the people, especially among the elderly which is normal in human behavior. Regarding older people underlying health condition such as respiratory disease, heart disease and diabetes are more exposed to covid19 and when told more exposed it’s even more frightening and fear-inducing, the psychological impact on these population brings anxiety, fear, stress and anger and its impact are even worse on older people with underlying health issues. More than 41000 people have died of Covid19 and among these most of them are older people and the death rate from the age 60-69 is 3.6%, 70 to 79 is 8% and from 80-89 is 14 %.  

In order to protect their mental and psychological health, they can do physical activities, stay connected, stay away from social media and follow the genuine source of information, Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting. Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, Try to eat healthily, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and smoking engaging in activities that you enjoy.

Impact on Children

Covid19 affects all of us, and everyone reacts differently including children, some children might not react being concerned but other may develop an unpleasant feeling of anxiety, sadness, stress restless and aggressive or feeling scared of dying, fear of their parents might die or fear of their relative dying, which affects their wellbeing.

What parents can do in this situation is to give them more love and pay more attention to them to resolve their fear, being honest with them and try to explain what is happening in such way that they should understand, Limit your family’s exposure to news coverage of the event, including social media. Children may misinterpret what they hear and can be frightened about something they do not understand.

Impact on Doctors and health workers

Doctors are in the frontline of Covid19 and they are more exposed and in danger of getting infected by the Covid19 Virus, the Hazards include pathogen exposure, long working hours, fear of getting Coronavirus, stress, restless, fear and fatigue. 9 doctors in the Philippines have died of Covid19 and many more have been infected and more than 60 doctors have died of Covid19 in Italy and many more health workers in other countries have been infected and died of Covid19.
