Provinces Flood Death Toll Reaches 122, Injuries 147

The devastating flood and landslide that hit 12 provinces killed at least 122 and injured further 147 locals, said PR office to Ministry of Natural Disaster Hasibullah Sheikhani.

The landslides that flooded through at least 12 provinces: Parwan, Kapisa, Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Panjshir, Nangarhar, Logar, Paktia, Paktika, Nuristan, Laghman and Khost, killed 122 people and injured 147 further residents, he elaborated.

“The floods in these 12 provinces have demolished 1500 homes and about 1150 acres of agriculture and fertilized lands were destroyed,” said Sheikhani to Khaama Press.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan Metrological Department announced the possibility of heavy rains in Kabul, Kunar, Nuristan, Badakhshan, Panjshir, Kapisa, Parwan, Laghman, Nangarhar, Logar, Khost, Paktika, Paktia and a number of Salang Passes.

[Earlier: Defense Minister Vows to Provide Aid to Flood Victims]

Afghan Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid visited Parwan province Wednesday in a bid to monitor and control the province hit with landslide and flood, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defense.

“Afghan national army is not only for fighting, they stand with people in any situation” Khalid said.

Meanwhile, he expressed his condolences to the victims’ family and those who are affected substantially, adding Afghan defense forces will stand by the people at all cost and circumstance.

Khalid, in cooperation with the government, vows to provide humanitarian aid to families affected by the flood.

It came at a time, at least 70 people killed and some 500 facilities are ruined after the city is hit with landslide.
