Ata Mohd NoorHundreds of protesters demanded the removal of the acting governor of northern Balkh province Ata Mohammad Noor accusing of ethnic and political discrimination.

The protest was organized by five members of the provincial council of northern Balkh province.

The protesters were chanting ‘We want social justice and equal development’ while accusing Ata Mohammad Noor for ethnic and political discrimination.

They urged the government to remove Ata Mohammad Noor and appoint a new governor for northern Balkh province as they started rally from east of Mazar-e-Sharif city and announced their staement near the provincial council.

In the meantime, Noor said peaceful demonstration is the right of the Afghan people and said the organizers of the protest are not having any influence among the people as only 400 people mostly children had participated in the demonstration despite they claimed that at least a milion a people would protest against the local government.

Noor also criticized the protesters for tearing pictures during the demonstration urging the supporters of Jamiat party to maintain calm.

The demonstration in Balkh province has been organized amid growing tensions among Jamiat party led by Ata Mohammad Noor and Junbish-e-Mili party.

Earlier a deadly clash erupted among the supporters of the two parties in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan which left several people dead or wounded.
