A prominent leader of the Taliban group was shot dead by his own security guard in eastern Lagman province of Afghanistan.

The 201st Silab Corps announced Wednesday that Mawlavi Gul Mohammad alias Sheikh Sahib who was in charge of inviting militants to Taliban ranks was shot dead by his own security guard in Alisheng district.

According to a statement released by 201st Silab Corps, Mawlavi Gul Mohammad was killed in Ghaziabad area of the district on Tuesday.

The statement further added that Mawlavi Gul Mohammad’s security guard handed himself over to security forces after carrying out the assassination.

The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the killing of the group’s prominent leader in Laghman so far.
