Prominent Taliban leader killed in Badakhshan province

According to local authorities in north-eastern Badakhshan province, a prominent Taliban leader, Qari Shamsuddin was killed following a NATO air raid in this province.

Local security officials in Badakhshan province said, the death of the Qari Shamsuddin was an enormous achievement and said Afghan security forces will be able to easily clean up insurgents from the Wardoj district.

Gen. Mohammad Ishaq Tamkin commander of the operations coordination unit in Badakhshan province said, Qari Shamsuddin was one of the prominent Taliban leader who had links with the al Qaeda network and his death will have a vital impact over security situation in this province.

Gen. Tamkin further added, Qari Shamsuddin was killed on Friday morning around 11:00 am local time following a NATO air raid.

Wardoj district is one of the volatile regions in north-eastern Badakhshan province where Taliban militants have increased to their activities in this province during the recent months.

In the latest of wave of insurgents attack an Afghan police outpost was targeted by Taliban militants last week where the Taliban militants kidnapped at least 11 Afghan police officers along with the Afghan police vehicle and other military equipments.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the death of Qari Shamsuddin.
