Karzai rejects membership in the National Reconciliation Council

Former President Hamid Karzai reacts to the list of the High Council for the National Reconciliation recently published by Palac.

President Ghani in a decree named 48 members of the High Council for the National Reconciliation, which is a step forward in beginning the Intra-Afghan Talks.

Karzai’s name was also announced on the list, but he rejected his membership and seemingly avoids to be on the list.

“I will not be a part of any government structure”, Former President Hamid Karzai said on Sunday in a statement.

The statement also added, that he is welcoming the peace efforts, and, as a citizen of the country, he will continue his efforts to bring peace in Afghanistan, he said.

In the decree, Ghani had called on religious scholars, the parliament, the private sector, media, and provincial councils to introduce their picks as the members in the peace council within a week.
