President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani arrived in Kandahar city, the provincial capital of Kandahar province, for the talks with the local military and civilian officials.

A Presidential spokesperson Shah Hussain Murtazawi said President Ghani is accompanied by a delegation of high level government officials during his visit to the province.

Murtazawi further added that President Ghani will hold talks with the provincial military and government officials during his visit to the province but did not elaborate further.

In the meantime, informed government sources are saying that President Ghani will deliver a speech this evening in Kandahar city and will likely talk regarding the ceasefire announced by the government last week.

President Ghani earlier on Thursday announced that the government is declaring a ceasefire starting from 27th of Ramadan and will continue until the 5th day of Eid.

He said the ceasefire is being declared in response to the religious scholars Fatwa issued on Monday where the ongoing conflict and violence was prohibited in the light of the principles of Islam.
