President GhaniPresident Mohammad Ashraf Ghani who is on a five days visit in the United States received “Distinguished Leadership Award” from the Atlantic Council and United States Institute of Peace.

President Ghani had a speech at the gathering organized by the Atlantic Council and United States Institute of Peace in Washington DC at the end of which he was presented the award.

During his speech President Ghani went in details about the current situation in Afghanistan. He said that a lot of changes have been made, adding that the national unity government is committed to fundamental changes in Afghanistan.

Talking about peace process, he said that working with Pakistan is first priority for reaching to peace.

He reiterated the importance of consensus among the regional and Islamic countries and said that stability in Afghanistan is key to the stability of the region.

He also said that Islamic State is expanding and to cope with the threat of the group, cooperation is required in the region and world.

He also talked about Farkhunda who was brutally beaten to death and her body was set ablaze in Kabul.

President said that he not only condemns the cruel act but also consider his duty to fully investigate the case and drag those behind the murder to judiciary.

Farkhunda , 27, an Afghan girl was beaten to death by angry mob and her body was burned during daylight in the heart of Kabul after she was falsely accused of burning a copy of the holy Quran on Thursday.

The brutal act prompted vast protests by thousands of people in parts of the country including Kabul asking “Justice for Farkhunda”

More than 20 people have been arrested in connection to the murder and security agencies have been trying to arrest the rest of the people involved in killing and burning the body.

The murder was also strongly condemned by human right organizations, United States and some other countries.
