Afghanistan and ChinaPresident Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai met with the Chinese officials in the first day of his official 4-day visit to China and invited the Chinese companies to invest in Afghanistan.

The Presidential Palace said President Ghani met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to discuss expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two nations, including political, security, economic, education, trade and culture, and fight against terrorism.

President Ghani quoted in a statement released by Presidential Palace thanked China’s commitment towards peace and stability in Afghanistan and improvement of relations between Kabul and Islamabad.

He said the government of Afghanistan will expand cooperation with China in the fields of security, specifically in fight against terrorism and drugs smuggle.

President Ghani called on Chinese companies to invest in transportation, construction and railway projects in Afghanistan.

He said the government of Afghanistan is committed to provide better environment for the foreign investers.

President Ghani also added that the government of Afghanistan is keen to turn Afghanistan into an economic junction in the region within the next 20 years, and wants to have direct transit link with China through Wakhan corridor.

In the meantime, Afghanistan signed four Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China on ease of political visa arrangement, China’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, economic and technical cooperation between the two nations.
