President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has reportedly appointed his senior adviser as caretaker for the Ministry of Finance, almost three weeks after the resignation of Iklil Hakimi.
Informed sources have said Dr. Humayoun Qayoumi, senior presidential adviser in infrastructural affairs, has been appointed as caretaker finance minister.
The sources further added that Dr. Qayoumi will be introduced as the caretaker finance minister on Tuesday evening.
Dr. Qayoumi is a trusted and close friend of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
He was appointed as the senior presidential adviser for infrastructural affairs by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani nearly three years ago.
Dr. Qayoumi was serving as the President of San Jose University in California when he was appointed as the senior presidential advisor.
This comes as the former Minister of Finance Iklil Hakimi resigned from his position nearly three weeks ago.
Hakimi announced his resignation from the Ministry of Finance during a press conference late in the month of June, citing family issues.
