Positive tests rising for the new ‘COVID-19 variant’ in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health on Saturday warned that Afghanistan may face a third wave of COVID-19 as a new variant of the virus has been identified in the country.


According to MoPH seven out of 11 covid-19 cases currently testing are positive for the new variant of Coronavirus.

Like other variants in the world this type of COVID-19 is far more contagious and spreads faster, MoPH indicated.

Wahid Majrooh, Minister of Public health at a launch of a new testing center on Saturday said that the government has opened a new testing center for the new variant of COVID-19 in a bid to fight against the virus, Seven out of 11 cases are detected as a new variant of the virus.

Majrooh hoped that Afghanistan will fight efficiently against the Coronavirus.

On the other hand, the head of the Coronavirus control center announced that the variant has spread among the public, and its transmission is easy and quick from one person to another but fortunately, the new variant has a lower fatality rate compared to the common COVID-19 virus.

So far, 56,290 positive Coronavirus cases are recorded in Afghanistan with 2,469 deaths and 49,994 recoveries.
