Poppy Fields Eradicated In Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan

Sunday, May 08 – According to officials, around 550 acres of poppies have been eradicated during a week-long campain in Uruzgan province of Afghanistan.

According to police chief, Col. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad, members from the Afghan Police, Afghan National Army and officials of the national Directorate of Security were involved during the campaign which started a week earlier.

He further added that we are trying to completely clean poppy fields in the province.

Provincial counter narcotics chief, Col. Noorullah Hotak said, nearly 550 acres of land cultivated with the illicit plant was eradicated in the provincial capital Trinkot.

He also added that with the technical support of International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF), eight land mines were also discovered and defused.
