Police officer among two killed in bomb explosion in Paktika

MusakhanTwo soldiers from Afghan Local Police including an officer embraced martyrdom in a landmine explosion in Paktika province.

Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai, acting police chief of Paktika province confirming the incident told Khaama Press on Friday that another soldier was wounded in the explosion that took place last night.

He said that Musa Khan Andar, officer of Afghan Local Police (ALP) in Mata Khan District, was traveling in a vehicle that ran over a landmine leaving Andar and another soldier killed and one soldier wounded.

Abdul Rahimzai added that following the explosion a brief gun battle occurred between security forces and Taliban at the explosion site in Faqir Qala area of Mata Khan District in which one Taliban fighter was also killed and his body left on the ground.

Taliban have not yet commented on the report.

This is second explosion in less than two weeks targeting security officers in Paktika province.

On March 16, Quick Reaction Force (QRF) Commander Azizullah Karwan’s vehicle was also targeted in an explosion in Wazi Khwa district leaving Karwan and six other soldiers wounded.

Paktika shares a long border with Pakistan where according to local officials insurgents occasionally cross border into Afghanistan for terrorist activities.
