Afghan intelligenceThe Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) foiled a plot to assassinate a senior Afghan intelligence official in capital Kabul.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) following a statement said, at least three suspected militants were arrested in connection to the assassination plot of NDS deputy provincial director, Dr. Zia.

The statement further added that the militants were arrested in capital Kabul, along with with explosives.

NDS officials also added that the group was appointed by Mawlavi Ismail, a Taliban group leader in Peshawar city of Pakistan, to assassinate Dr. Zia.

Afghan intelligence operatives seized an RPG-7 rocket launcher along with its 7 grenades, 1 AK-47 rifle along with its 4 magazines, a barrel of explosives along with some other explosives, NDS said.

NDS in its statement also added that the detained militants have confessed that they were planning to carry out coordinated suicide attacks in capital Kabul to assassinate the Afghan intelligence deputy provincial director, Dr. Zia.

Anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.
