Vice President Pence in a statement confirmed his meeting with Prime Minister Abbasi on the sidelines of the UN General Abbasi.
He said he reiterated the belief of the President of the United States that Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in the region.
Pence did not elaborate further in this regard but Washington has increased pressures on Islamabad to eliminate the terror safe havens in a bid to defeat terrorism from the region.
While announcing the new US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia last month, the US President Donald Trump strongly criticized Pakistan regarding the terror sanctuaries, saying “For its part, Pakistan often gives safe haven to agents of chaos, violence, and terror. The threat is worse because Pakistan and India are two nuclear-armed states whose tense relations threaten to spiral into conflict. And that could happen.”
Speaking during the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President Trump said “It is time to expose and hold responsible those countries who support and finance terror groups like Al Qaida, Hezbollah, the Taliban and others that slaughter innocent people.”
“The United States and our allies are working together throughout the Middle East to crush the loser terrorists and stop the reemergence of safe havens they use to launch attacks on all of our people,” he added.
