The U.S. envoy for Afghan peace Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has said that peace will require reliable assurances from Afghanistan and Pakistan that neither side’s territory is used to threaten the other.
Ambassador Khalilzad made the remarks in a Twitter post after concluding his trip to pakistan.
He said “Peace will require reliable assurances from #Afghanistan & #Pakistan that neither side’s territory is used to threaten the other. Such assurances on top of an intra-Afghan comprehensive peace agreement will allow increased regional economic integration, connectivity & development.”
Furthermore, Ambassador Khalilzad said he met with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa during his visit to Pakistan.
He also added that he discussed Pakistan’s role in support of the process & additional positive steps they can take.
Ambassador Khalilzad will resume talks with the Taliban leaders in Doha after concluding his trip to Pakistan.
