The General Passport Directorate has announced that applicants with residency or visas for foreign countries other than Iran and Pakistan will be prioritized in the passport issuance process.

In a message posted on its social media platform X, the Passport Directorate stated that these applicants can receive their passports without delay through the online passport application process.

The Passport Directorate’s message states, “Our goal is to ensure that those who are in the most need and whose visa or residency validity has not expired can receive their passports without delay.”

This comes as passport issuance within the country and at many Afghan embassies abroad has been halted since the rise of the Taliban to power.

According to reports, tens of thousands of passports have been distributed over the past year to citizens in provinces such as Balkh, Kabul, Bamyan, Herat, and several other provinces, benefiting millions of Afghans.

Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, there has been a surge in people wanting to leave the country mass migration. This is primarily due to the lack of job opportunities and the dire economic situation within the nation.

Simultaneously, neighboring countries have intensified forced deportations of Afghan migrants, exacerbating the situation.

These developments unfold against the backdrop of a severe humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, with over 23 million people urgently requiring assistance, as reported by the United Nations.
