Wednesday, July 27, 2011 – Tensions parliamentarians and the Special Electoral Tribunal to be resolved in two days, President Karzai promised Afghan House of Representatives on Tuesday.

A number of senior members of Afghan parliament including the speaker of the House met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai yesterday at the presidential palace to discuss a way out of the tensions.

House Speaker Abdul Raouf Ebrahimi said, “President Karzai has accepted all the suggestions by the delegates and promised to announce his final decision by tomorrow.”

In the meantime, Afghan president Hamid Karzai believes the tensions among different branches of the government over the disputed September parliamentary election results can be resolved.

President Karzai said, “we have some problems in the parliament which could be resolved. Each democracy undergoes these stages,”

Mr. Karzai further added,  “It has been ten years since we started and countries with even century-old democracies still tackle with such sort of problems.”

He also said, “this is not a matter of concern and worry. It is part of the evolution of the democracy.”

Tensions among the  Afghan House of Representatives mounted recently after the special electoral tribunal accused 62 active MPs of committing electoral fraud in September elections, and introduced 62 failed candidates into the parliament as winners.
