According to local government officials, the artillery shelling by Pakistani military lasted almost three hours, leaving a number of civilians killed or injured.
The officials further added that the shelling started around 11:30 am local time and continued until 2:30 pm.
Provincial police spokesman, Zia Durani, has confirmed the shellign and said preliminary reports suggest at least one civilian was killed and another was injured following the attack.
Durani further added that the Pakistani forces were looking to enter Maruf district but were pushed back by Afghan security forces, and as a result the Pakistani military started indiscrimate shelling.
This is not the first time Maruf district has been attacked by Pakistani military forces.
At least one civilian was killed and a number of the Afghan border protection police forces were injured after Pakistani military attacked the Afghan check posts in Maruf district in June last year.
