[1]A Pakistani engineer who was kidnapped from eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan has been recovered, it has been reported.

Malik Faiz Ahmad, originally a resident of Rawalpindi, was abducted by unknown individuals from Jalalabad-Torkham highway late in August.

According to the local media reports, Ahmad was recovered by the Pakistani military and was returned to his family.

Ahmad’s son Farhan has said his father was first brought to Peshawar city and he was then brought home to Rawalpindi city.

The circumstances surrounding the release of Ahmad have not been ascertained so far and it is yet not clear who was behind his abduction.

The Pakistani officials have not formally commented regarding the release of Ahmad so far.

No individual or group has claimed the responsibility behind his kidnapping but earlier reports emerged suggesting that the militants were demanding the release of their comrades in exchange of the hostage.

“It is said that the militants are demanding their people [held] in [Pakistani security agencies’] custody in exchange,” Ahmad’s son had said in a plea ahead of his release.

According to reports, Ahmad was working on Torkham-Jalalabad highway project and was on his way to Pakistan when he was abducted by unknown gunmen.
