Officials in western Herat province of Afghanistan are saying that attack on US consulate in western Herat city of Afghanistan was carried out by Pakistani suicide bombers.
The officials further added that investigations regarding the attack reveals the identities of the assailants who were recognized as Pakistani nationals.
Provincial governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi also insisted that the war in Afghanistan has exernal links, and a number of the foreign countries are trying to destabilize the country.
Mr. Wahidi confirmed that the identities of majority of the militants were recognized as Pakistani nationals, and Afghan militants were not involved in the attack. “I visited the US consulate in Herat and extended my condolences to those who suffered from the incident,” Mr. Wahidi quoted by Radio Free Europe (RFE) said.
He ruled out the comments by US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan that the war in Afghanistan was internal affairs of Afghanistan and said that the dead bodies of the militants were foreigners, and majority of them were citizens of Pakistan.
In the meantime, the consulate of Pakistan in Herat denied the remarks of Afghan officials and called it a propaganda. However, an official in US consulate in Herat province told RFE that investigations have been launched in this regard, and a statement will be issued after investigations are completed.
