The Pakistani cement industry is losing its major market share in Afghanistan mainly due to a sharp rise in the cost of doing business in Pakistan.

Citing the industry stakeholders, Pakistan’s The Nation newspaper reported that the country’s cement industry is losing the major Afghan market share to Iranian cement.

The stakeholders have said government had announced an increase in electricity and gas prices last month, which was severely damaging the industry.

They also added that the cement industry is contributing to its role in national exports in addition to providing jobs to thousands of workers.

However, the stakeholders said the increased cost of doing business was hurting Industry which must be curtailed to get maximum share for Pakistan economy.
