Pakistan lodges strong protest with Afghanistan over cross-border attack

Pakistan foreign officePakistan lodged a strong protest with Afghanistan over the alleged cross-border attack by militants on Pakistani check post in Bajaur.

The ministry of foreign affairs of Pakistan following a statement said Pakistan summoned the Afghan Charge d’ Affairs in Islamabad and registered its protest with him.

“During the attack, one Pakistani soldier embraced shahadat while two were seriously injured. A protest was lodged with the Afghan Charge d’ Affairs and the matter was also taken up by our Ambassador in Kabul with the Afghan Foreign Ministry,” the statement.

Pakistan’s foreign ministry also rejected reports regarding shelling on Afghan civilians inside the Afghanistan and said the Pakistan aviation only fired on attacking terrorists.

Pakistani officials claimed that over 200 militants entered Bajaur on Saturday from Afghan side and launched attack on Pakistani check posts.

“To repulse the terrorist attack, Pakistan troops responded with artillery and aviation support. Any allegations about shelling on Afghan civilians inside Afghanistan are incorrect.” the statement by foreign ministry of Pakistan said.

However, local officials in Kunar province said at least four civilians were killed and eleven others were injured after Pakistani gunship helicopters carried out airstrike in Dangam district.
