ISLAMABAD – In a grand ceremony at the President’s House, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Nishan-e-Pakistan award on Prince Rahim Aga Khan, recognizing his significant contributions to Pakistan’s development and prosperity.

The prestigious event was attended by an array of distinguished guests, including Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, federal ministers, parliamentarians, diplomats, and senior government officials. The atmosphere was one of anticipation and reverence as attendees gathered to honor Prince Rahim’s achievements.

President Zardari praised Prince Rahim Aga Khan for his dedicated efforts through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). For over a quarter-century, Prince Rahim has been instrumental in improving the living standards of people in resource-constrained regions of Asia and Africa. His contributions span economic development, health, education, and cultural well-being, benefiting poor and marginalized communities.

Under Prince Rahim’s leadership, the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development has pioneered initiatives in Pakistan across various sectors, including commercial banking, microfinance, insurance, sustainable tourism, and renewable energy. These efforts have provided nearly 50 million Pakistanis with access to financial services, significantly enhancing their economic opportunities.

In his role as the Founding Chairman of the AKDN’s Climate and Environment Committee, Prince Rahim has also led efforts to address climate change, establishing policies and best practices for environmental stewardship. His support was particularly vital during the devastating floods of 2022, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of the Pakistani people.

The ceremony also highlighted the historical contributions of the Aga Khan family to the Muslim community in India and the formation of Pakistan. This multigenerational legacy of service and development was a focal point of the event, underscoring the enduring impact of the Aga Khan family’s efforts.

After receiving the award, Prince Rahim Aga Khan met with President Zardari to discuss the ongoing role of the AKDN in Pakistan’s socio-economic development. The president expressed his appreciation for Prince Rahim’s unwavering dedication and contributions to the country, while Prince Rahim thanked the president for the honor, reaffirming his commitment to Pakistan’s continued progress.
