imageAfghan security officials said Sunday that attack on presidential contender Dr. Abdullah Abdullah was carried by foreign intelligence agencies.

The issue was shared during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by President Hamid Karzai.

The security officials said preliminary investigations reveal that the attack on Dr. Abdullah was carried out through Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group which is looking ot disrupt the election.

The officials also added that further investigations are in process regarding the attack and the findings will be presented to Afghan people once the probe has been completed.

National Security Council (NSC) once again instructed the security institutions to thoroughly investigate the assassination attempt.

At least 12 people were killed and several others were injured following the twin blasts which targeted the convoy of Dr. Abdullah in western part of Kabul city on Friday afternoon.

Abdullah survived the assassination attempt; however, a number of his electoral campaign team members and security guards were killed or injured following the attack.
