At least two Pakistani soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire when militants attacked a security post near the country’s border with Iran on Thursday, the military said.
According to a statement from the military’s media wing, terrorists attacked the security forces’ Singwan station in Balochistan’s Kech district. However, as soldiers replied, the terrorists were pushed back.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
“Security Forces, in step with the nation, remain determined to thwart attempts at sabotaging peace and stability all along the borders in Balochistan,” the ISPR statement added.
The Iranian Embassy in Pakistan’s capital denounced the incident and expressed its condolences to the two soldiers’ families. It called for cooperation between the two close neighbours “to combat terrorism,” the Embassy said in a tweet.
Previously, similar attacks have been attacked by the TTP and BLA militants, targeting police officers, ordinary people and foreign nationals.
Since November last, the militants, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch Liberation Army, have increased their attacks on Pakistani officers.
Meanwhile, Pakistani officials have reiterated that they are committed to eliminating the militants from the country.
