Saturday, August 13, 2011 – a delegation of Pakistan’s committee recently visited Tajikistan to put efforts to deepen business relations with Dushanbe.
According to reports, the meeting between the Pakistani officials and Tajikistan officials were held a couple of weeks ago in Dushanbe to discuss bilateral and trade ties between the two nations.
Officials from both the nations discussed construction of roads, power lines and gas pipelines, including construction of a road from Tajikistan to Pakistan across the Afghan border.
Meanwhile, officials in Tajikistan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry have also discussed construction of a transit highway between Pakistan and Tajikistan via Wakhan area of Badakhshan province.
The two sides also focused on implementation of the project to build a 500 KW of electricity transmission line called “CASA-1000” that will be linked through Afghanistan to Pakistan.
Upon the implementation of the project, Pakistan will receive 9 billion KW electricity from Tajikistan.
According to Afghan economic analysts, Afghanistan will also benefit from the CASA-1000 project and will be able to purchase electricity on lower costs.
Afghan economic analysts further added, Afghanistan would hugely benefit from CASA-1000 project, functioning as a bridge between the two states.
Meanwhile, Acting Water and Energy Minister Mohammad Ismail said, “Afghanistan would benefit from CASA-1000 project in two ways. First from transit taxes of energy extension and second the utilisation of energy on the way to Pakistan.”
