Following the expulsion of Afghan migrants, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations announced the return of over 200 Afghan migrants and the release of 33 prisoners from the country’s prisons.

The ministry stated in a newsletter on Sunday, April 7th, that 231 migrants and detainees have been released from detention as of that date, returning to the country through the Torkham and Spin Boldak border crossings.

The head of the Spin Boldak border directorate in Kandahar province said the returnees include 16 families comprising 99 individuals who entered Afghanistan after being expelled from other countries.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations added that the returnees have been introduced to the International Organization for Migration offices, the World Food Programme, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for assistance.

Afghan migrants are being expelled from Iran and Pakistan at a time when the expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, especially Iran and Pakistan, has significantly increased in recent months.

Yesterday, 347 Afghan migrants entered the country through the Torkham and Spin Boldak borders of Kandahar province on Friday and Saturday.
