The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA) has announced that only Monday, the 19th of August is a national holiday on the occasion of the 100th Independence Day of the country.

The ministry has released a formal letter confirming that Monday, the 19th of August coinciding with the 100th Independence Day of Afghanistan will be a national holiday in accordance with the Article 14 of the Labour Law.

This comes as reports emerged social media earlier suggesting that the government has declared the 19th of August as national holiday across the country.

The reports which went viral on social media also suggested that the government has declared holidays from Monday until Wednesday in Kabul in a bid to ensure security for the Independence Day celebrations.
