Four officials in the Ministry of Public health were arrested for soliciting bribes, Afghanistan’s Attorney General Office said on Tuesday.
These four individuals were reportedly busted in an AGO and NDS operation.
Jamshed Rasooli, a spokesman to AGO said that all four suspects were taken into custody and investigations are ongoing in regards to the corrupted officials.
Reports indicate Minister of Public Health, Javad Osmani’s brother and cousin were involved in the corruption case.
Two other corrupt officials, a ministerial adviser, and a project manager are also among the four arrested.
Osmani’s brother and cousin were not employed by the ministry but were taking bribes in his name, sources have told media.
So far, the Ministry of Public Health has not commented.
This comes as AGO and NDS arrested three senators for accepting $40,000 in bribes in Balkh province, AGO stated on Monday.
They were sent to the province for assessing revenue collection departments.
