
The Norwegian Refugee Council’s Secretary General emphasized that Afghanistan requires urgent development aid alongside emergency assistance, which is crucial for addressing its challenges.
Jan Egeland emphasized on his social media platform X that the people of Afghanistan currently need the international community’s help more than ever.
Egeland added that Norwegian Refugee Council personnel, including women, successfully delivered emergency aid directly to individuals in Afghanistan. However, he did not provide additional specifics regarding these operations.
Egeland also mentioned that senior officials from aid organizations convened a meeting on Wednesday to discuss Afghanistan’s increasingly alarming humanitarian situation.
It has been reported that the World Food Programme declared yesterday that one billion dollars are needed to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan.
According to the report, the World Food Programme can provide food assistance to one out of every five needy citizens in Afghanistan due to budget constraints.
This comes as humanitarian and relief organizations in Afghanistan have consistently warned about the rising poverty and hunger in the country.
