The National Procurement Commission (NPC) approved the request for the procurement of 17,865 biometrics devices for the upcoming presidential elections.

The commission in a statement said Wednesday that participants of NPC meeting reviewed the request for the purchase of additional biometrics devices which the Independent Election Commission had put forward.

The statement further added that the request by Independent Election Commission also included the purchase of other items including printers, power banks and papers.

Furthermore, the National Procurement Commission said the purchase of the new biometrics devices and other equipment will cost around 14.14 million Euros.

Meanwhile, the National Procurement Commission said the election commission needed 39,000 biometrics devices for the upcoming presidential elections.

The commission also added that the government had earlier handed over 20,000 devices to election commission during the parliamentary.

The National Procurement Commission said the additional 17,865 devices are being purchased to respond to the needs of the election commission.

The election workers had reported issues while using the biometrics system during the parliamentary elections last year.

However, officials in election commission are saying that necessary preparations are in place for the better use of the system during presidential elections.

The Presidential elections are scheduled for 28th of September this year.
